Support for New Parents
Pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenthood support in Ontario
Becoming a parent is one of life's biggest transitions.
It can bring joy, love, excitement, and a deep sense of purpose. It can also bring uncertainty, exhaustion, self-doubt, and challenges that many people never anticipated.
Most new parents spend a great deal of time focusing on the needs of their baby. In the process, their own wellbeing can gradually move to the bottom of the list.
The reality is that adjusting to parenthood takes time.
There is no perfect way to navigate pregnancy, postpartum, or early parenting. Most people experience moments of confidence alongside moments of overwhelm. Many are surprised by how much their relationships, identity, routines, and emotional wellbeing can shift during this season of life.
Needing support does not mean something is wrong.
Sometimes it simply means you are moving through a significant life transition and would benefit from a space that is focused on you.
Every family’s experience is different, and there is no single “right way” to navigate early parenthood.
For some, the journey to parenthood has also included infertility, pregnancy loss, infant loss, or other unexpected challenges. Whatever your experience, you deserve compassionate support.
Common reasons people reach out
People seek support for many different reasons.
You may be adjusting to pregnancy, recovering from birth, navigating the demands of caring for a new baby, or trying to find your footing as your family grows. Some parents are also processing a difficult or unexpected birth experience.
You might be:
feeling overwhelmed by the constant demands of parenting
carrying the mental load of parenting and family life
wondering if you’re doing enough or doing it "right"
emotionally stretched or more sensitive than usual
adjusting to changes in your relationships or sense of identity
feeling exhausted from disrupted sleep and the demands of caring for a young child
You may also simply want a space to pause, reflect, and care for your own wellbeing while caring for others.
How therapy can help
Therapy offers an opportunity to pause, reflect, and receive support during a time when much of your attention is directed outward.
Together, we can explore the challenges you are facing, build on existing strengths, and develop practical ways to support your wellbeing.
Our work may focus on:
Managing stress, worry, and overwhelm
Adjusting to life changes and new roles
Navigating relationship and family transitions
Reconnecting with your own needs and values
Strengthening coping and self-care strategies
Supporting emotional wellbeing during pregnancy and early parenthood
Sleep and wellbeing
Sleep disruption is a normal part of life with a new baby, but that doesn't mean it has no impact.
For some people, interrupted sleep contributes to increased stress, anxiety, emotional exhaustion, or difficulty coping.
Where appropriate, we may explore strategies that support rest, recovery, and wellbeing within the realities of parenting.
